‘SEAL’ is an acronym which simply stands for ‘Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning’. The programme focuses on 5 social and emotional aspects of learning: self awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills.  Previously these skills have been taught through individual units of work in PSHE.  At St. Nicholas Primary School we believe that children need to be taught key life skills and SEAL provides a regular opportunity for this.  The children learn about skills such as successful group interaction, dealing with loss and techniques for controlling feelings of anger.

SEAL

Each half term the children explore a new theme, which begins with a whole school SEAL assembly.  During the half term all year groups explore the same theme through exciting lessons appropriately pitched for their level.  A family activity is sent out as homework for children to complete with their family and to consolidate the classroom learning.  At the end of the theme we have a special closing assembly which allows the children to celebrate and share their work.
