As a Church of England school, our ethos is based on strong Christian principles. R.E. and worship within the school are high quality experiences which allow the children to explore and develop their faith and spirituality, whilst celebrating the diversity and common elements of other faiths.
We enjoy close links with St. Nicholas’ Church and our wonderful vicar is Canon Colette Thornborough, a very active member of our school community. Classes regularly visit the church and Canon Thornborough supports the teaching of R.E. in school. Together, we have organised Class Eucharists and a very successful Holy Week, where children took an active part in bringing the Easter story to life.
The children also experience a whole school visit to the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool where they participated in a variety of extremely enjoyable activities, increasing their knowledge and understanding of the Church. The wider community and families are always invited to join our whole school services which are held to celebrate harvest, Christmas, Easter and the end of the school year.
We are proud that the children at our school are caring individuals who are always eager to make a difference to their world by responding to our work for local, national and international charities. They have raised funds to provide goats for families in Africa, supported Water Aid and joined a campaign to stop child trafficking around the world. In this way, children develop into global citizens who understand the needs of others.
A message from Reverend Colette Thornborough:
St Nicholas’ Church seeks to be a welcoming church family for all ages. You may be particularly interested to know about our worship and groups for children and young people, from 0-14 years – starting with Toddler Church, JUICE (Join Us In Christ’s Environment) Toddlers’ group, Sunday Sparks (4-11 years), 3F4U (Fun, Faith and Friendship for you – 7-11 years), and ‘the bridge’ youth group (11-14 years). We value our strong links with the Church School and regular assemblies, seasonal services, church visits and joint projects take place, along with the celebration of school and class Eucharists.
